Welcome to Mirador de Abrante, a breathtaking lookout point with a seven-meter-long glass walkway that offers an incredible view of the north side of La Gomera.
The glass platform, 620 meters above sea level, was made so you could get an unobstructed view of the breathtaking scenery below, making it a perfect spot for capturing those awe-inspiring travel photos that everyone back home will envy.
The name “Abrante” itself holds a special significance, derived from the Guanche word for “steep cliff.”
And indeed, steep cliffs are what define this extraordinary site, with sheer rock faces plunging with a vertical drop of about 400 meters into the town of Agulo and the sea below.
Where is Mirador de Abrante, La Gomera?
Mirador de Abrante is located on the northern coast of La Gomera above the town of Agulo.
It takes 50 minutes to drive there from San Sebastián de La Gomera (32.8 km). It is closest to the towns of:
- La Palmita – a 10-minute drive
- Agulo – an 18-minute drive
- Hermigua – a 25-minute drive
- Vallehermoso – a 25-minute drive
It is also conveniently located close to the Visitor Center for Parque Nacional de Garajonay (a 5-minute drive and 2.2 km).
We bundled visiting these 2 sites together and would recommend you do the same! The visitor center has a ton of great information on the park as well as hiking.
Plus, be sure to grab the delicious gofio cookies at Dulcería Sabores Gomeros. They were delicious and the family that owns the shop were so nice and gave us great recommendations.
Is Mirador de Abrante Open?
The Mirador de Abrante is open to visitors for FREE from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday, with the building and its iconic glass viewpoint closed on Mondays.
You may see some mixed messages on if Mirador de Abrante is open to the public. That is because the building was originally a restaurant and that restaurant is closed. The building is now only used for the view and is open.
In addition to Mirador de Abrante being open Tuesday through Sunday, there is a network of hiking trails that offer other spectacular vistas of Agulo below and the distant Teide, accessible at any time for those eager to explore.
Mirador de Abrante Facilities
One notable feature of Mirador de Abrante is its architectural design, which seamlessly blends into the natural surroundings.
The viewpoint itself is designed to offer unobstructed views of La Gomera’s landscapes, with spacious platforms and viewing areas strategically positioned along the cliff’s edge.
To complement the awe-inspiring views, visitors can also find amenities such as seating areas, coin-operated telescopes, and of course the glass platform to take in the view.

There are two restrooms at Mirador de Abrante, one for women and men; however, we would not rely on them being open. They were closed for maintenance when we visited and according to locals we chatted with, they are closed more often than they are open.
Do not expect a visitor center. There usually isn’t anyone there to provide information.
There used to be a café inside the building at the Mirador. However, the café closed, and the tables and chairs were nowhere to be seen. We asked if it would be coming back, and it didn’t sound like it would be any time soon.
Accessibility is thoughtfully planned, with facilities to ensure that everyone, including visitors with limited mobility, can enjoy this spectacular spot.
Overall, the facilities at Mirador de Abrante La Gomera are a bit of a mixed bag. The amenities for the view are great while the more practical items like bathrooms are not great.

You’ll pass by the informative Juego de Bolas Visitor Center roughly five minutes before reaching the Mirador de Abrante.
Parking at Mirador de Abrante, La Gomera

This parking lot is designed to accommodate about 25 vehicles.

By Bus
For those preferring public transport, La Gomera’s bus service (known as guaguas) offers a sustainable and budget-friendly way to travel.
However, the Line 2 bus route does not directly stop at Mirador de Abrante. It only stops in Agulo. This requires hiking to reach the Mirador.

This trail has stunning vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and Tenerife’s Mount Teide on clear days.
The hike to Agulo is difficult at about 1,500 feet in elevation change, but it takes you through a landscape that feels like stepping into a living postcard.
If you can physically handle the elevation change, this would be an epic hike! Just be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks.
Mirador de Abrante to Centro de Visitantes Juego de Bolas (Parque Nacional de Garajonay)
For those seeking an even more challenging hike and looking to explore the heart of La Gomera’s natural beauty, the trail connecting Mirador de Abrante with the Garajonay National Park Visitor Center is an excellent choice.
This UNESCO World Heritage site is famed for its ancient laurel forests and remains of the Tertiary period, offering hikers a magical journey through misty woods and fern-laden paths.

This route is more demanding (8.3 miles round trip), with steep descents and climbs, but the reward is the stunning scenery and the sense of achievement once you reach the Vallehermosa.
It’s a fantastic way to experience the island’s diverse landscapes from high viewpoints through Tamargada and Loma de Palmarejo.
