Best Sites from Lagos to Sagres

Luz

This charming town offers a beautiful beach and a laid-back vibe. It is one of the larger towns between Sagres and Lagos, but it is not large.

Down by the coast, you’ll find the beach (Praia da Luz) as well as decently well-preserved Roman ruins. We thought they were super cool with the ocean in the background!

You can make this a quick detour or easily spend a few hours at the beach here!

Praia da Luz is a good stop between Lagos and Sagres

Forte de Almádena and Boca do Rio Beach

This beach and ruins of a historic fort are a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the detour.

The beach is secluded and the surrounding natural beauty makes it a great stop for nature lovers.

Forte de Almádena is not as impressive as the fort in Sagres but there are far less people here and more ability to explore. This makes for some pretty epic photos with the ocean and nature in the background.

Salema

One of the Algarve’s best-kept secrets, Salema is a traditional fishing village where you can enjoy fresh seafood and a tranquil atmosphere.

This was probably our favorite stop but that may also be because we ate here and we love good food! There are many delicious seafood options but A Bóia is our favorite!

After you eat, be sure to go find the Dinosaur footprints by the beach. If you head to this staircase, the footprints are visible just to the west of there.

Salema, Portugal is a charming fishing village with lovely buildings.

Menhir of Padrão

Standing tall and proud in the quaint village of Raposeira, the Menhir of Padrão is a large rock standing upright.

Portugal has several of these “Stonehenge” like rocks all over the country but this is the most prominent in this region.

This is a quick detour but it will require a bit of walking to get to the rock!

Zavial

Just down the road from Menhir of Padrão is Praia do Zavial, a stunning, secluded beach. There is a cute restaurant, Zavial, with an incredible view!

This is a wonderful, restorative place to stop by when driving from Lagos to Sagres.
