We weren’t sure what the expect for getting around Sedona when we went for the first time. During our week of exploring the red rock town, we found all the best ways to venture around Sedona.

If you prefer driving yourself, using public transport, or utilizing a driving service like a shuttle, taxi, or Uber, Sedona has options for you.

In this article, we will help guide you on the different ways to get to Sedona, we will recommend how to get around, and we will explain which methods of transportation we prefer.

Is there Uber in Sedona? Is there Lyft in Sedona?

Yes, both Uber and Lyft operate in Sedona! You can easily book a ride with either service using their respective apps.

Uber is available in Sedona for UberX and UberXL. 

Lyft is also available, however, Lyft XL has very limited availability.

To go from one side of town to the other will cost you about $10-$15.

How reliable is Uber in Sedona?

Uber is not super reliable in Sedona. When we opened the app in Sedona, there were a few cars in the area, sometimes as little as 1 or 2. 

Most cars are at least 10-15 minutes away.

We do not recommend relying on Uber as a main source of transportation, as it may slow down your trip greatly and cause you to miss some of the attractions you want to see.

Phoenix to Sedona

Driving from Phoenix to Sedona 

Road-tripping to Sedona is a great way to experience the beauty of Arizona. A great way to get to Sedona is to fly into the Phoenix airport.

 Located two hours north of Phoenix on Interstate 17 and Highway 179, it’s a popular and easy destination for anyone looking to take in the stunning red rock formations that define the area. 

If you’re planning a visit, it’s important to give yourself plenty of time; traffic can be heavy on weekends during the spring months near Sedona, which can cause delays when nearing Oak Creek Village.

Is there a shuttle service between Phoenix and Sedona?

For those who don’t want to drive themselves, there are plenty of shuttle options available for those wanting to make their way from Phoenix to Sedona. 

Shuttle buses and private shuttles are available both ways between Phoenix and Sedona for convenient transportation without having to worry about driving yourself. 

Groome Transportation offers a daily shuttle service that takes passengers from Phoenix to Sedona and other nearby locations. The trip takes a little less than 3 hours in total. 

The shuttle picks up passengers from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, airport hotels, and other locations in the area before making its way to Sedona. 

Along the way, it may make stops in Cottonwood, Camp Verde, and the Village of Oak Creek to drop off or pick up passengers. 

This reliable and convenient form of transportation helps travelers explore the breathtaking beauty of Sedona without having to worry about renting a car or finding alternative forms of transportation.

Flagstaff to Sedona

Driving from Flagstaff to Sedona 

The drive from the Flagstaff Airport to Sedona is much quicker than the one from Phoenix.

With a drive of fewer than 45 minutes, you’ll be seeing the beautiful red rocks in no time.

Is there a shuttle service between Flagstaff and Sedona?

Groome Transportation provides a shuttle service from the Flagstaff Airport to Sedona. However, there is less availability than the one from Phoenix. 

Other than Groome, there aren’t many options. Since it is a short trip, this would be a good opportunity to grab an Uber from Flagstaff to Sedona which will cost you around $100.

Are there day tours to Sedona? Sedona Day Trips

The most convenient way to get from Phoenix to Sedona and experience the stunning views and awe-inspiring landscapes is on an organized tour. 

Tour guides provide an in-depth look at the history of the area, as well as access to exclusive places that are not available on your own.

These tours usually include stops at various attractions along the way, such as Bell Rock, where visitors can enjoy an up-close view of this iconic formation.

This tour includes much more time driving than the previous tour, but if you are trying to hit both Sedona and the Grand Canyon, this is the tour for you! 

Getting Around Sedona

How do you get around Sedona without a car?

You do have the option, as we said earlier, to use Uber or Lyft to get around Sedona. However, this option isn’t super reliable and will cost you $10-$15 per trip.

The free Sedona Shuttle system is very reliable and will get you to the most popular trailheads. 

However, it only operates during certain hours and days, and you have to first make it to a pickup location so you must plan accordingly. 

The Verde Shuttle system only costs $1 and gets you to the major stops in the city of Sedona.

Does Sedona have Shuttles?

The shuttle system in Sedona is an efficient and easy way to get around and visit the popular trailheads.

The City of Sedona operates the shuttle buses as part of its commitment to providing safe transportation for locals and visitors. 

When you use the shuttle to get to the trailheads, a Red Rock Pass is not needed, even when you park in the two Park and Ride parking lots. 

The shuttle system runs year-round, Thursday through Sunday, 7am-5:30pm. 

Additionally, all shuttles are wheelchair accessible, making it easier for people with mobility impairments to travel!

The shuttle service takes passengers to some of Sedona’s most popular destinations such as Cathedral Rock, Little Horse, Soldier Pass, and Dry Creek Vista. This shuttle service is perfect for those who want to explore the local area without having to worry about driving. 

Finally, the best part about the Sedona shuttle system is that it is free! Simply board the bus at one of their designated stops and enjoy exploring Sedona without having to worry about parking or traffic.

Verde Shuttle is a transit route that provides service throughout Sedona every hour from 6am-10pm, seven days a week. 

This shuttle service is different from the Sedona Shuttle service as it does not go to the trailheads, but it does hit the major tourist stops like the Visitor Center and the art and shopping villages. 

There are stops in West Sedona, Uptown, and South Sedona. To be picked up in Sedona, just wait by any bus stop sign. 

The cost to get on the bus and travel within Sedona is only $1.

No matter where you’re headed, the Sedona Shuttle System or the Verde Shuttle is an easy and affordable way to get around. Plus, hopping on one of the shuttles gives you a chance to take in the stunning red rocks that make this area so special.

Is Sedona a Walkable Town?

Sedona has very walkable sections, especially in the Uptown area where the shopping is.

You can hop from shop to shop in Uptown very easily as the main drag is about half a mile long. There are great sidewalks and crosswalks along the main roads. 

While Sedona is not a huge area, it’s not a place where you can walk everywhere from any one central place quickly. It will take over an hour to walk from West Sedona to Uptown. 

However, the top hikes and red rock sites are very far from the main streets, and we do not recommend walking on the side roads that do not have sidewalks, especially early in the morning or at night. 

Utilize the shuttle systems as much as you can to get to the sites that are not in the main part of town.

Should I rent a car in Sedona?

Yes, We would recommend it if you want to maximize your time exploring.

Without your own form of transportation, it can be difficult and timely to explore the various attractions and landmarks located both within and outside of the town. 

If you rent a car, you’ll be able to beat the crowds to the main hiking spots. This gives you a chance to see the sunrise or sunset without having to rely on Uber, Lyft, or the shuttle system. 

You will also be able to easily walk to Sedona’s best spots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

In conclusion, yes – but you’d be better off either using a combination of their shuttle system when convenient or renting a car. 

Visiting Sedona is an unforgettable experience – but make sure you plan ahead before heading out! 

Give yourself plenty of time if driving yourself so you don’t encounter traffic near Oak Creek Village, or book a tour or shuttle if you’d rather not worry about navigating yourself.
