Catalan Bay, also known as La Caleta in Spanish, is located on the eastern coast of Gibraltar and can be walked to from Casemates Square in under 30 minutes.
This scenic bay is known for its unique blend of traditional Mediterranean fishing village vibes and beautiful coastal views.
It’s a family-friendly destination where you can soak up the sun or take a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean Sea.
Water sports enthusiasts can also enjoy activities like paddleboarding and kayaking in these calm waters.
One of the distinctive aspects of Catalan Bay is its charming promenade lined with colorful houses, seafood restaurants, and cafes. You can savor local seafood dishes while enjoying the sea breeze and the company of friendly locals.
💡Note that the official currency of Gibraltar is the Gibraltar Pound (GIP).
Catalan Bay also has historical significance. It was once home to Genoese fishermen who settled here, and you can still see the traditional fishing boats called Llauts along the shoreline.
We absolutely loved Catalan Bay and the vibe there. It was an easy walk from Main Street and there was great food to grab from the local restaurants. Plus, you get a great view of Spain!
2 – Sandy Bay – Gibraltar Beach
✨Known For: Crescent shape and calm waters, making it ideal for swimming
🚻 Toilets: Yes
🏨 Best Hotel Nearby: Arcadia 408

Sandy Bay, situated on the eastern side of Gibraltar, is a popular and inviting beach renowned for its soft sandy shores and family-friendly atmosphere.
This crescent-shaped beach is relatively small but is protected by two surrounding groynes, creating calm waters for activities and families with children.
Sandy Bay has various amenities, including restaurants, bars, and cafes, providing opportunities to enjoy local cuisine while taking in panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
It’s a vibrant hub that attracts both locals and visitors seeking a relaxing beach experience. We loved the location for the excellent views of the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and the surrounding coastline.
While Sandy Bay may not be the largest beach in Gibraltar, it certainly offers the best swimming conditions.
3 – Eastern Beach – Gibraltar Beach
✨Known For: Largest stretch of beach in Gibraltar
🚻 Toilets: Yes
🏨 Best Accommodations Nearby: E1 Suites and Spa
🅿️ Best Parking: Eastern Beach Car Park
🍽 Best Restaurant Nearby: Freska

Eastern Beach is a prominent and inviting stretch of shoreline renowned for its spaciousness and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
This expansive sandy beach is the largest in Gibraltar, offering ample space for sunbathing, beach sports, and family fun.
The gentle waves and gradual slope into the sea make it an ideal spot for swimming, especially for those with children. The clear waters invite snorkelers and swimmers to explore the marine life beneath the surface.
There are restaurants and beachside cafes at Eastern Beach so you do not have to pack a picnic. It has the best beach hotels nearby and is conveniently located near the city center (about a 20-minute walk from Casemates Square).
The beach also runs all the way to the airport runway, giving you the opportunity to watch planes taxi and take off which we thought was super cool! We had never experienced a beach next to a runway.
The beach’s unique position allows for spectacular views of the Rock of Gibraltar, creating a unique backdrop for your beach day.
4 – Camp Bay – Gibraltar Beach
✨Known For: The Gibraltar Reef and two swimming pools
🚻 Toilets: Yes
🏨 Best Accommodations Nearby: The Rock Hotel
🅿️ Best Parking: Europa Pool Car Park
🍽 Best Restaurant Nearby: The Dolphin

Camp Bay in Gibraltar is a captivating coastal destination on the western side of Gibraltar, offering a tranquil Mediterranean escape with a touch of history.
Camp Bay has historical significance as a former campsite during World War II, evident in the remnants of wartime structures you can explore. Throughout the year, the beach hosts lively events and festivals, including live music and cultural celebrations.
Camp Bay boasts Europe’s most expansive man-made reef, a remarkable achievement by a group of activists who successfully secured permission to submerge a vessel in shallower waters, departing from the conventional practice of deep-sea sinking.
There are 11 wrecks in Gilbratar to make this artificial reef. This makes this beach the best place for snorkelers!
Also, if you don’t like the ocean, there are 2 swimming pools to enjoy!
5 – Little Bay – Gibraltar Beach
✨Known For: Secluded, intimate atmosphere
🚻 Toilets: Yes
🏨 Best Accommodations Nearby: The Rock Hotel
🅿️ Best Parking: Europa Pool Car Park
🍽 Best Restaurant Nearby: Chiringuito Piri Piri

Little Bay is a hidden gem nestled on the western side of Gibraltar, known for its intimate and serene atmosphere.
The natural cove features a mix of sand and pebbles, with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
One of the notable features of Little Bay is its natural beauty and surrounding cliffs. We found that the rock formations created a picturesque backdrop that enhanced the sense of seclusion and tranquility.
Its relatively small size ensures a sense of privacy, making it popular among couples and those looking to unwind in a peaceful setting.
Although compact, Little Bay doesn’t lack amenities. A beachside bar and restaurant, Chiringuito Piri Piri, offers refreshments and meals.
Europa Pool, Beach Volleyball Courts, a boardwalk, and the Europa waterfall are also in the vicinity.
Given its size, Little Bay tends to be less crowded than some of the larger beaches in Gibraltar, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing day by the sea.
6 – Western Beach – Gibraltar Beach
✨Known For: Close to city center and next to airport runway
🚻 Toilets: Yes
🏨 Best Accommodations Nearby: Sunborn Gibraltar
🅿️ Best Parking: Western Beach Parking Lot
🍽 Best Restaurant Nearby: La Playita

Western Beach, located on the western side of Gibraltar, is known for its natural charm and tranquil atmosphere that is sometimes interrupted by landing planes.
It is the only sandy beach on the western side of the rock and previously was only usable by Ministry of Defence residents. Now it is open to the public.
What sets Western Beach apart is its more secluded and less known compared to some of the other beaches in Gibraltar. It’s often favored by those seeking a retreat away from the crowds.
Western Beach is well-connected to Gibraltar’s city center and is easily accessible, making it a convenient option for a day at the beach. While it does not have as many amenities as some of the larger beaches, it offers a pure, unspoiled coastal experience.
7 – Black Strap Cove – Gibraltar Beach
✨Known For: Smuggler Tails
🚻 Toilets: No
🏨 Best Accommodations Nearby: Arcadia 408
🅿️ Best Parking: 2 Sir Herbert Miles Rd Parking
🍽 Best Restaurant Nearby: Europa Point Café
Ahoy there! This coastal spot in Gibraltar might not have a sandy beach, but, trust us, it’s still an essential coastal destination on the list of Gibraltar beaches.
Tucked away near the charming Catalan Bay and Princess Royal’s Battery, this hidden gem unveils some wild tales from the smuggling days of yore. Rum, whisky, tobacco, and wine – you name it, they smuggled it here.
Back in the day, sailors looking to trade with Europe, the UK, and the New World would drop anchor and wait for those pesky Levante winds to calm down.
They coined the phrase “black-strapped” during this beachy downtime, which, well, gave the cove its snazzy name.
So legendary is this cove that the Gibraltar Distillery Company decided to tip their hat with a whisky named after it.
Now, isn’t that the kind of place you’d want to visit? Cheers to you, Black Strap Cove!
8. Seven Sisters Beach
✨Known For: Seeing Large Ships coming into the Gibraltar Port
🚻 Toilets: No
🏨 Best Accommodations Nearby: The Rock Hotel
🅿️ Best Parking: Cable Car Parking Lot
🍽 Best Restaurant Nearby: 4 Stagioni

This beach on the west side of Gibraltar is mostly used by the residents of the Town Area.
There are no toilets and no close parking for visitors. It is very rocky and oily, and the beach doesn’t have a good view of The Rock because of the Port walls behind it.
The only upside is that the beach will be close to empty, which makes it the lowest-rated Gibraltar beach on our list.
We recommend trying one of the other beaches on our list instead.
