The famous food of Madrid
Are we even talking about Madrid if we don’t talk about food?! Madrid is famous for the traditional food you will find all over the city.
We are big into eating right while traveling, so we have all the recommendations for what and where to eat while in Madrid.
What food is Madrid most famous for?
Madrid is renowned for its delicious cuisine, with a wide variety of traditional dishes that delight locals and visitors alike.
The city is particularly famous for its tapas – small dishes that usually consist of a few bites of meat, cheese, or seafood served on top of a piece of bread or toast.
Some popular tapas include patatas bravas (potatoes with a spicy tomato sauce), tortilla de patatas (potato omelette), gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), and croquetas (Spanish croquettes).

Other traditional dishes include paella, cocido madrileño (chickpea stew), and gazpacho (cold vegetable soup).
Our favorite of all Madrid cuisine is bocadillo de calamares, or fried squid sandwich. We always get ours at La Campana because of the amazing quality every time.

While we sometimes tire of all the Ibérico Ham while traveling on the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid does have some of the best. Only order some when you can watch it be cut!
Whether you’re in the mood for something luxurious or a simple snack, there’s something for everyone in Madrid!
Famous Madrid Desserts
Madrid is also home to some of the world’s best chocolatiers, patisseries, and ice cream parlors.
We make sure we always stop at Chocolala Belga when in town for handcrafted dark chocolate.

Another staple dessert in Madrid is churros con chocolate. But these fried pastries can be had for an afternoon snack or even breakfast! Chocolatería San Ginés is our favorite place to get them!
Porras are very similar to churros, except lighter and slightly less crispy. We prefer a porra over a churro because they are larger, but both are perfect when dipped in chocolate.
Buñuelos rellenos are incredible fried fritters with sweet fillings. You can grab the best ones in Madrid across from El Retiro Park at Moulin Chocolat.
